Cruisin Classics is proud to present to you our latest arrival – this 1953 Chevrolet Gasser. It’s said that some things never go out of style, in our opinion a tall, fast, and loud 50’s Gasser is definitely one of those things! Finished in white driver-quality paint, this Chevy sports many (removable) vinyl decals typical of a Gasser-style build – it certainly looks the part. In keeping with the style, the front bumper has been deleted and a 3 gal. Moon fuel tank has been added. The remainder of the front grill has been painted a matte grey. The hood has been re-hinged to the front so that it tilts forward to expose the engine. This Chevy does maintain much of it’s original chrome trim in good condition and it looks great in the daylight. The back bumper has been painted black for contrast. Like all Gassers, this Chevy has staggered tires with Firestone White Wall Dragster tires on the rear and Nexen tires wrapped around Crocket Racing wheels on the front. Under the tilted front end you’ll find a 350ci Chevy V-8 bored .30 over with a small cam. The engine is topped by an Offenhauser intake with dual-quad Holley carburetors and velocity stacks. Other features under the hood include an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, finned valve covers, and a chrome alternator. Exhaust flows through wrapped headers to exhaust cut-outs controlled by a key fob. The 350 is mated to a 5-speed Borg-Warner transmission with a 10-bolt rear end. This combo makes for a much more streetable Gasser than usual, you can actually drive it on the freeway to a car show. It also has rack and pinion steering for better turning. Stopping power comes from front disc and rear drum brakes backed up by a dual reservoir. The front suspension is composed of longitudinal leaf springs with shocks while the rear features longitudinal leaf springs with shocks and ladder-bar control arms. Open the drivers door to find a nice black interior with vinyl bucket seats and a rear bench in good condition. The black carpet is in good condition as are the non-original door panels. Between the bucket seats is a Hurst shifter to row through the five gears. The black-painted dash is topped with an Autogauge tachometer and has a trio of Equus gauges beneath. There is an aftermarket stereo in the dash but it is currently inoperable. In the trunk is a fuel cell and an Optima battery. If you’re a fan of the Gasser style, you’re certainly going to want to give this one a close look – it’s not often that you find one that offers dragstrip fun while still being freeway drivable!
