A 1930 Willys Knight is the kind of classic you don’t see very often
But take a few more moments to understand how this one was built so that you can really enjoy the drive. With cool two-tone paintwork, a custom/comfy A/C interior, upgraded small block V8 power, an overdrive transmission, and an upgraded suspension, it’s everything you want in one distinctive sedan.
The Willys-Knight was known as a great grand touring car, and it also didn’t survive The Great Depression. So this 1930 model is a terrific classic. These were also known for grand color themes, and so this one makes sure to fulfill that legacy in a two-tone purple. There is an elegance in the way the duo intertwine. And the metallic in the finish not only looks good in the sunshine, but it also signals how this sedan has been upgraded. And while the Cragar wire wheels and dual exhaust tips also give hints at a more modern/powerful cruiser, there’s the right vintage feeling from this, too. It’s in the details, like the windshield overhand, dual spare tires mounted in the swoopy fenders, and the rear luggage carrier with trunk affixed.
The sea of purple continues inside to reveal a very custom setup. The seats have a classic look and pattern, but the tweed is far more modern – especially when used to match the side panels, too. What this era did offer was plenty of interior space, so feel free to take along plenty of family and friends. There’s even cold-blowing air conditioning to keep them all comfortable. But the driver is the most important one in this custom machine. That’s why you have a three-spoke sports steering wheel mounted on a tilt column, a Lokar shifter, and the classic Willys-Knight gauge package with a speedometer at the center.
More of this driver’s true cruiser nature can be seen in the engine bay. After all, while the “Knight” part of the name had to do with the special motor, in modern times, you really want small block power. The Chevy 350 cubic-inch V8 is hardy and loves upgrades. That’s why this one is built with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, a Mallory distributor, and shorty headers feeding the dual exhaust. The V8 fires up with an eagerness that tells you this one was meant to run. And the full cruising package includes a Heidts independent front end, power steering, power brakes, and front discs. Plus, transmission is a smooth-shifting four-speed automatic w/overdrive, so you’ll easily cruise this classic near and far.
