Period-perfect Model A Hiboy In 2006 Robert Strickland built this period correct hot rod in his To The Curb Rod Shop in the car capitol of southern California, Bakersfield. Starting with an older built hot rod that had sat around for years he began to build his 50`s dreamrod. Robert is a perfectionist and so you will see as i tell you about this uniquely fabricated car.ย  BODY AND EXTERIOR- Original 32 Ford grille shell with an aftermarket stainless insert dressed out with King B headlights, Pete & Jake shock mounted, paint is Satin Black by John Deere called Blitz, 39 Ford tail lights, ( complete 2 piece Roitlieb hood painted but never installed ), 4 inch top chop on an original genuine Ford body, original windshield frame that tilts out with the original Model A brass hangers, striped by word famous pinstriper Ronny Beam of Bakersfield. All wiring nice and neat with fuse box under dash as it should be. ENGINE & DRIVELINE-For keeping this all rebuilt vintage 1970`s 350 CI Chevy front oiler ( 327 style ) is a Walker radiator with power cooling by Cooling Components 2700 CFM fan and shroud, high volume oil pump, Carter 4 barrel ( 600 ) on a vintage Streetmaster Edlebrock , manual choke, with an original 50`s Cadillac air cleaner, fuel is hard lined all the way from fuel tank to carburetor, GM HEI electronic ignition, 100 amp chrome alternator, to keep the ground solid weld cable was used, Chrome can be seen here and there, but notice those vintage valve covers with Mooneye breathers, , it starts with a $300 power master starter, 350 Chevy transmission all rebuilt has a cooler mounted descreetly mounted as is everything on this car, oh yea, a 23 inch Lokar curved shifter, exhaust thru lakester style Speedway kit with full exhaust which can be un-capped and run open. Did I mention with the push of a button this Model A will shoot out 3 foot flames!!! CHASSIS FABRICATION- This Model A is attached to a fully-boxed original 30 frame with a Superbell 4 inch dropped axle with custom chrome 4 bar suspension, Pete & Jakes chrome shocks up front and similar chrome 4 bar in the rear attached to an early 60`s Ford 8 inch rear with 2:79:1 gears all rebuilt and bounced with coil overs, braided brake lines with stainless lines inside of the frame, inline filter on fuel line. Steering is thru a Vega cross gear box attached to a 56 Ford pickup steering, battery quick disconnect in the trunk. INTERIOR MODIFICATIONS- The first thing that is hard to miss is the 50`s style Bamboo interior with silver metalflake upholstery with matching steering wheel, dash is clean with a 32 aftermarket designed to fit a Model A, original Stewert Warner gauges ( amp changed to volt ), Autometer Tach, a nice touch for long trips to the Grand Nationals or elsewhere is the 25 gallon specially fabricated fuel tank behind the seat ( 4 inches at the top & 12 inches at the bottom ), if you drive on cool nights an early Ford heater does the job, all the windows work perfectly with original cranks. WHEELS & TIRES- Classic original steelies with 40 Ford caps and trim rings, Edmond Classic L/78-15 rear, 5.60-15 front, drum brakes rear, GM disc brakes front.
