A phaeton style Ford meets hot rod flair on this 1929 Ford Model A
The powerful V8 and coordinated style are all part of a detailed street machine that loves to be both mean and unique.
The phaeton-style roof and the clutter-free body really makes for the sleek look of a classic torpedo body. But that’s for the European sophisticates out there. You know this one is more of an all-American street machine. After all, we call this kind of matte paint Hot Rod Black. And this one has an extra mean stance with a low front end and tall/wide rear tires. While the impression tries to give you a minimalist machine, you really can really tell they took some time on the details. It’s in everything from the quality of the fabric roof to the way you can see the speed holes in the suspension arms. And there’s an overall feeling of value when the smooth custom body is done in steel. Plus, those wire wheels done in red attract a ton of attention.
The red and black style of the outside continues inside. It’s nicely intertwined on the seats, side panels, and even the floor. Just like the exterior, the thoughtfulness is in the simplicity. The seats have a cool/classic aluminum hot rod style, but anyone who doesn’t find them comfortable enough will like the plush rear bench. The smooth dash draws your attention to the classic-style Stewart Warner gauges. And the tall Lokar shifter will make you feel like the rat fink.
The two-tone style even extends to the engine bay. They use the smooth and dark inner walls to funnel your attention to the full red powerhouse in the middle. This is a 350 cubic-inch crate motor, and the V8 has a nice Edelbrock upgrade suite with the four-barrel carburetor, intake, and finned valve covers. Plus, the shorty headers add power while giving the dual exhaust a sweet tune. And features like the electric choke and aluminum radiator w/electric fan make it a solid all-around machine. As you look underneath you’ll see more of the thoughtful quality with a custom frame, Super Bell dropped I-beam front end, custom driveshaft, and a stout Ford 9-inch rear. And the three-speed automatic transmission, front disc brakes, and modern tires complete a package that delivers a quality driver.
